American luxury clothing brand Brooks Brothers has formed a joint venture with Reliance Brands Limited with a view to launching operations in India. The oldest clothing retailer in the US, founded in 1818, aims to capitalize on the fast-growing fashion market in India, as newly-created middle-classes seek to latch on to westernized trends. Brooks will open its first three stores in the country during August and September, in the cities of New Delhi, Elante and Chandigarh (which will host the largest store spanning 3600 square feet). The full range of womenswear and menswear will be on offer, with tailoring concessions made to accommodate local needs. According to current estimates, middle-class consumers in China, India and Indonesia will number one billion by 2015.
