Too beautiful to eat? It’s a tough call and one recipients of Ladurée’s Christmas edition macaron sets will be forced to make this holiday season. The macarons, nestled in their luxurious packaging, are the perfect gift for a fashionista with a sweet tooth.
The rich packaging colors of this new “Les Indiennes” line were inspired by the textiles worn during the holidays during the 16th century in Southern France. The jewel tone green, golds, blacks and paisleys that adorn Ladurée’s limited-edition cashmere boxes this season once adorned the petticoats, scarves and tuckers of the fashionable at that time. Filled with Ladurée’s world-famous macarons, they’re priced at HK $200 (USD $25.80) for a box of six macarons and HK $450 (USD $58.05) for a dozen. Ladurée is also offering a special Santo-Domingo Chocolate Macaron, comprised of two chocolate crispy shells filled with chocolate ganache, for HK $23 (USD $2.97.)
Ladurée loyalists are eagerly awaiting the opening of the famed Parisian bakery in Hong Kong. They’re keeping the exact date under wraps but it is expected to be before the beginning of 2013. We do know that the shop will be located in Kowloon’s Harbour City Mall. If sweet lovers need a fix before then, they’ll have to travel to one of the bakery’s six locations in Japan.
Famously known as the inventor of the double-decker macaron, it is estimated that Ladurée sells as many as 15,000 of their trademark treat every day. Flavor offerings include citron (lemon), thé vert (green tea), almond, framboise (raspberry), pistache (pistachio), chocolate, and coffee in addition to new flavors introduced every season. Besides macarons, Ladurée is also known for its fine cakes and pastries, teas, jams, candles, room fragrances and whimsical, signature shopping bags at shops worldwide.
