Luxury UMA Paro Resort to Expand in Bhutan
Newfound luxury in UMA Punakha
Having already recommended UMA Paro resort in our guide to Bhutan, Macaron Magazine now turns its attentions to a sister property: Uma Punakha, which is due to open in September 2012. The intimate, 11-room lodge, operated by COMO Hotels, will take the form of a Shambhala Retreat, with two treatment rooms offering a hot stone bath and traditional Buthanese therapy. Proudly perched on a verdant hillside in the tranquil Punakha Valley, the lodge adds a new luxurious dimension to the traditional trekking itineraries in the region. Described as an “ideal place to practice yoga” with stunning birds-eye views, Uma Punakha overlooks the glacial waters of the River Mo Chu. In the same valley, of course, stands the sedate temple in which Bhutan’s King and Queen memorably married last year.
