La Flora Patong is a five-star boutique hotel situated along Phuket’s massively popular Patong Beach. It boasts an unrivaled combination of a convenient location, direct beach access, luxurious accommodation and good service. I spent three days with my family at the hotel on our last trip to Phuket and came away impressed.
A member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH), La Flora Patong lived up to the group’s usual high standards. Let’s begin with its location. Two words: simply superb. The hotel is literally built on Patong Beach. To access the beach, simply walk a few steps from your room and voilà—you are there. Unlike many other “beach hotels” in Patong, there’s no street to cross or need for a tuk tuk. The direct beach access alone sets La Flora apart from its competition.
Having said that, I must admit that I am not a huge fan of Patong Beach. The beach is quite possibly a victim of its own success as it is easily crowded (especially during the high season). However, Patong Beach is a multi-faceted destination renowned for its bustling street life and shopping. Restaurants and shops abound in the neighborhood–and La Flora is strategically located to take full advantage of all the action.
You can go to the beach as easily as you can to the popular Jungceylon Mall. The latter is a mere 10-minute walk from the hotel–not to mention the vibrant street life along the way. Head to the beach in the morning to avoid the crowd, come back and take a dip in the main pool, and then head out for shopping, a spa treatment or a quick snack. Such is the beauty of the hotel’s location that it can easily serve as a stress-free hub for all your activities. Hopping in and out of a hotel has never been so much fun.
We stayed at the hotel’s “Pool Villa with Loft”. Comprised of two levels of generous living space and a private plunge pool, the user-friendly loft was smartly designed and infused with just the right amount of modern luxury. The main floor featured an open plan design with a bedroom, a flat screen TV, a three-piece bathroom (with a jacuzzi) and a walk-out patio consisting of a private plunge pool and a sunbathing pad. The second level featured a spacious living room fully equipped with an oversized floor-to-ceiling window and a deluxe home theatre center.
Suffice to say that we enjoyed our “home away from home” greatly. The duplex design, along with its separate living and sleeping space layout, allowed for additional privacy and extra room to stretch out for our family of three. This, in turn, created a much more desirable experience than the typical one-bedroom “suites” offered by many hotels.
And then there was the private plunge pool. While not large by any means, it was fairly deep and surrounded by high walls for privacy. A pair of chaise lounges completed the offering. The inclusion of plunge pool and sunbathing pad (albeit compact) was a pleasant surprise–considering the prime location and relatively pocket-friendly price of our loft.
One of the things I enjoyed about La Flora was its user-friendliness. In addition to the aforementioned benefit of direct beach access, the main pool and signature restaurant were both only a few seconds walk away. Likewise, a fitness center and a rooftop restaurant/lounge were seamlessly integrated into the main building, offering guests a convenient one-stop experience.
Last but not least, La Flora provides excellent service in line with its five-star rating. Staff members were generally well-trained, friendly and offered prompt service upon request. A case in point: –we ordered a late-night room service for our son one evening with a special rush delivery request. Sure enough, the food arrived in only a few minutes! Color me impressed, but I have seldom experienced such quick room service, especially late at night.
Speaking of food, we tried the hotel’s signature “The Current of the Sea” restaurant for breakfast and dinner. We were satisfied with both the food and service. We felt that the price/quality ratio was certainly competitive, and the convenience of the restaurant simply made it an easy choice, especially for guests traveling with young children.
Overall, we had a great stay and highly recommend La Flora Patong. It’s a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World and I must say that I have never been disappointed by SLH’s offerings–La Flora is no exception. Don’t miss out on this wonderful boutique hotel on your next trip to Phuket.
