Review: The Langham Huntington, Pasadena

The Langham Huntington, Pasadena has just celebrated its 100^th anniversary. Like a fine wine, this heritage hotel simply gets better with age. I had a wonderful five-day stay and my only regret was that I didn’t stay longer.

My journey from Hong Kong to California didn’t get off to a great start, however, as my late-night flight got delayed for a few hours. On the plus side, Air Canada’s Maple Leaf Lounge and Business Class provided excellent service and comfort which helped reduce some of the stress.

Due to the flight delay, I didn’t arrive Los Angeles International Airport until around 1 am in the morning. Transport to the hotel took a quick 30-minute ride via the pre-arranged hotel shuttle. Such a convenient location was a welcome relief to this tired traveler.

I was delighted to find out that the friendly staff had been awaiting at the hotel driveway and greeted me warmly upon my arrival. Check-in was fast and smooth and I was soon ushered to my room, which was a Club-level Huntington Suite. The one-bedroom suite was spacious and infused with the perfect blend of old-world charm and modern-day convenience. It exuded an air of casual elegance which made me feel immediately at home. The marble bathroom and queen size bed provided a much needed R&R after my long journey.

Over the next five days, I set out to explore nearby points of interest. Blessed with a fantastic location, the hotel is right at the heart of everything. Downtown LA is only a 15-minute drive away, while Beverly Hills takes about 30 minutes. Old Town Pasadena and the Huntington Library & Gardens are both within a short 5-minute distance. For art lovers, Norton Simon Museum, which contains one of the world’s finest collections of art, is a mere 10-minute ride away.

The hotel’s luxurious Chuan Spa served as a wellness sanctuary during my downtime. The signature Chuan treatment offered a beautiful experience amidst an array of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and cutting edge skin care technology such as Mistral LHE. For an exquisite dining experience, look no further than The Royce – the hotel’s famous Wood-Fried Steakhouse featuring American Wagyu and authentic Japanese Kobe Beef. My “Global Cut Tasting”, which included three selected cuts from around the world, was cooked to perfection and an easy recommendation.

The Langham Huntington, Pasadena is a great choice for those who value a rare combination of tradition, luxury, service and convenience. I enjoyed my stay there and will surely come back for another visit.
