The John Walker & Sons Voyager Sets Sail in Asia

Embark on a life-changing odyssey with John Walker and Sons

“Make mine Black!” In certain parts of the world like the Indian subcontinent, this call doesn’t always refer to a request for coffee but rather to a demand for an alcohol beverage. A beverage which usually features Johnnie Walker Black label, a whisky that is crafted by the world’s leading luxury whisky house, John Walker and Sons.

Sales of the British brand’s whiskies in the Indian market alone have risen more than 30% over the last year, while net sales figures for the entire Asian market are up by an impressive 19% according to the liquor company, Diageo which owns the brand.

Keeping these trends in mind, the whisky house earlier this month announced the launch of a unique initiative for the Asia Pacific region. An effort which seeks to give the brand’s well-heeled consumers a unique insight into the heritage of the company while providing a ‘one of the kind’ brand experience. For this endeavor, the company has launched the John Walker and Sons Voyager, a luxury yacht, which will set sail from Shanghai this month.

This luxury vessel which will travel through the Asia Pacific for over a period of six months aims to recreate epic journeys as it highlights the brand’s nautical history. The luxury yacht will dock at nine ports of call, in China, Taiwan, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore and India, as it traverses ancient trading routes, discovered by the company when it first began to trade internationally from its store in Scotland nearly 200 years ago.

The voyage which captures the essence of a true odyssey also pays homage to the pioneering spirit and sense of adventure of three generations of the Walker family, while simultaneously launching the house’s new triple malt, the John Walker and Sons Odyssey housed in a crystal grade decanter. This new blend commemorates one of Sir Alexander Walker’s greatest inventions- the creation of a decanter capable of standing upright at sea, ideal for use on luxury cruise ships.

At each port, the Voyager will also serve as the background for a series of events which will celebrate the launch of the malt and allow invitees to savor the luxury blend. As the yacht navigates the region, leading creative minds – authors, photographers and illustrators will chronicle the progress of each port-of-call from the Golden Era until present times. This effort seeks to recreate one of the first-ever travel luxury travel guides -Around the World, first commissioned by the House of Walker nearly 100 years ago.
